Have you thought about how our lives change with the passing of days, months and years? The house we live in, the people that live with us, the clothes we wear and even the things we like to do, all this is changing, usually one thing at a time, slowly. And suddenly, when we realize it, there is little left of how we used to be, of what we used to do or even of who used to be by our side. This is not necessarily bad, we are human beings seeking evolution and our growth is strengthened when we look back and we can understand our journey.
Now think of a child, or yourself when you were little. Children change a lot, all the time, and memory allows us to save only what is most relevant.
But what if we could save more? Would you like to have a record that represents those Sunday lunches, with the whole family together for no special reason? And what about your old sock, that you loved and did not take away from your foot when you were a child?
At some point I realized that the family photos of my childhood taken in the studio, neat, had a lot of quality and showed how I looked, but it was the family photos taken at home, with simple clothes (which was what I used to wear in my every day that shows details of my house, which sent me back to my childhood and made me feel really the essence of how I WAS or what my life was like.
And then I thought that what I really wanted was to put the two together, to have photographic quality and to portray the essence of family moments, and family documentary photography has a lot to do with everything that I believe!
And when Gabi told me she wanted a pregnancy family photoshoot at home, I made sure our wishes were aligned. It’s still a few months before Anita is born, but her presence in the life of this family begins long before the belly is giant. The preparations for her little room are just beginning, so we took the time to record it into their current routine on any given Saturday! Of course, they played jokes and ideas of photos in the meantime, and we took the opportunity to register everything! That’s what I want the lifestyle maternity photography shows.
Look at the result of this and tell me if I’m on the right track … How much do you think these pictures will have for these children 20 or 30 years from now?
