I was in Brazil last month visiting my family and friends and took the opportunity to also do some family photography with clients and dear friends. I will share here those beautiful moments that we had together.
Gabi was the first person to hire me when I decided to shoot professionally. Our photo session when Isabela turned 2 was my first paid session. I had done a couple of works for friends before and I even photographed Isabela’s first birthday, but those were only for fun or to build my portfolio.
Now, 3 years after that first session, we meet again to do a mother and daughter session. A lot has changed since then. I mean a lot, really! Isabela has grown a lot (as you can see), every day she is more beautiful. Gabi also has changed a lot (for the better). And I know my photography is not the same either.
What has not changed is this beautiful connection between mother and daughter that was present before and is still present today. They keep having fun together, but Isa is getting more and more independent. The fun they have is different now. There is a conversation between them. And it’s a little scary how the time flies. The baby who first needed her mother for everything now begins to be a friend and the connection between them strengthens more and more every year.
But take a look at the first session. Tell me if you also can identify details that remain the same even over time. The care, the love, the expressions, the affection, all these are always present. I wish it can be always like that! And they will keep growing, evolving, but the essence and the feelings are the same, and I am happy the pictures can show all that. Those feelings and details that have always been and will always be with them.
In addition, I always find it is important in a session, not just beautiful photos, but connections and contexts that are meaningful to those photographed. For Gabi and Isa, for example, skating is a passion they share, and one thing they do together, so it makes total sense to photograph that.
And I’m so happy to be able to participate and record these inevitable and beautiful changes in their lives. I can only feel grateful to have the chance to photograph again such lovely people. I hope these records help to further reinforce this beautiful relationship.
