London documentary family photographer
I love returning to photograph the same families I’ve photographed before. One of the reasons is because they feel more relaxed since they know the way I work and I also know how the family works. The other reason is that I get a chance to keep telling their story.
I first photographed this family even before I was working with photography. I started photographing Jeremiah’s birthday party when photography was just for fun to me. Later, after I decided to be a professional photographer, we had the pregnancy session preparing the baby’s room, the baby shower for Anita, a pregnant session again, Anita’s birth and a few months later, a day in their lives.
This year I returned to Brazil and had the chance to photograph them again. This time it was a short session that lasted 1,5 hours, but it was still in a documentary style because I think they are a good match for it (and so am I).
Shooting outdoors is beautiful, but the kids get more agitated as it contains lots of new information that make them want to go exploring everything.
The fact that the family is in their own environment at home, where they are already comfortable and relaxed, helps a lot to create genuine moments, even in short sessions. Especially for the children, as they feel free to explore their favourite games or even interact with each other.
All of these reasons made it easy for us, in a session of just over an hour, to have a beautiful result with pictures that represent this moment in their lives.
As you can see, Anita is at a stage where she has become almost the protagonist of the family. She has a strong personality, impossible to go unnoticed. But the photos continue to show the united family that they are. In little more than an hour, moments of affection among them all happened spontaneously. And those stories and connections are what I consider to be the most valuable ones we have registered.
